Morning Rhythms for Busy Women

You don't need an hour. You need five minutes and a willing heart. Simple practices for meeting God in the margins of a full life.

I used to believe that a "real" quiet time required a full hour, a candle, a journal, a cup of coffee that was still hot, and a sunrise. I had exactly none of those things most mornings.

So I stopped trying. And I missed God in the margins of my days for a long time.

Here's what I've learned: God is not waiting for your ideal conditions. He is present in the five minutes before the kids wake up. He is present in the car line and the lunch break and the moment before you fall asleep.

A few simple practices that have changed my mornings:

One verse. Not a chapter. Not a study. One verse, read slowly, held in your mind as you move through the morning. Let it be the lens through which you see the day.

A breath prayer. Inhale: "You are with me." Exhale: "I am not alone." Repeat as needed — which is often.

Gratitude before your feet hit the floor. Three things. Specific things. Not "my family" but "the way my daughter laughed yesterday." Specificity is the enemy of numbness.

A moment of surrender. "Lord, this day is yours. I am yours. Do what only you can do."

You don't need an hour. You need a willing heart and the belief that five minutes with God is worth more than five minutes of scrolling. Start there. He'll meet you.
